Another “only for fun” match will be played this round at Ploiesti having Astra and Pandurii as participants. The “wonder team” from Targu Jiu isn’t such a powerful team in away matches while Astra has another disappointing season despite their initial high expectations. Nevertheless, Astra is announcing to be a real contender next season after signing with coach Mircea Rednic and manager Dinu Gheorghe, two important figures in Romanian football from the past seasons. After a strong start this spring with important wins in first two league games, Steaua gained only one point from last two matches against poor teams as Targu Mures and Gaz Metan Medias. The result was the departure of coach Ilie Stan and arrival of the opportunist Mihai Stoichita, a coach that is in good relationships with owner Gigi Becali but in the same time in conflict with some parts of the fans. It’s important to see how Steaua will react after a crazy week when they travel to face one of the best teams on the home ground, Pandurii Targu Jiu. Without serious hopes of qualifying for the European competitions next year and in the same time with no concerns regarding the relegation battle, Pandurii is fighting only for pride because every team is fully motivated when play against Steaua. Pandurii has yet to win a match this spring at home and their mission will be very difficult tonight as Steaua needs desperately three points in order to keep pace with leaders CFR Cluj. Concordia Chiajna and Astra Ploiesti will face each other tonight in the last game of the round in Liga 1. Astra is a better team than Chiajna but we expect a balanced match here as Concordia played well lately, especially in the narrow loss against Steaua. At Astra there are some issues and was appointed a new coach (in fact this is the second arrival of Tibor Selymes, who started the season for Astra, was dismissed and now is back) but the team isn’t a power-horse in the league. Liga1Romania expects a draw match here, at least for the halftime. Both teams are suffering in attack and we can’t see any of it scoring in the first half.

Steaua looking for continuity at Piatra Neamt

Tonight at Piatra Neamt local team Ceahlaul will host Steaua Bucuresti, a team that search its third consecutive win in Liga 1, streak that didn’t happen for almost 18 months. With Cristi Tanase in his best ever shape for club and national team, Steaua will try to win at the weakest team on the home ground.
